My husband found this breeder through a FB group, Working Chessie, on October 6th 2020. Tammy Dennis announced a litter in this group. My husband called that day and talked to her at length, eager for a new puppy since our late Chessie passed away in March 2020. She said a $500 deposit was needed to confirm a pick. The deposit was sent that day. We have dealt with other Chesapeake Breeders that required deposits but promptly returned the deposits when the pregnancies did not take. The litter was due on November 2, 2020. My husband stayed in constant contact about the status of the momma dog. By the weekend there was still no puppies. Tammy Dennis stated she would take the dog to the vet to check her out on Monday November 9, 2020. She stated she was concerned that the pregnancy was aborted and the puppies reabsorbed. This seemed very odd to us as experienced dog owners. We know that only early on in a pregnancy puppies can be reabsorbed but not well into the pregnancy. She swore that the momma was big and fat and looked obviously pregnant. Well my husband had to call her to find out the end results. She said the puppies were reabsorbed but offered no proof from the veterinarian. This makes no sense. We feel that she is lying. Either there was no pregnancy or she over sold the litter and bumped my husband from 2nd pick. My husband was very disappointed and asked for the return of the deposit. She refused stating that deposits are nonrefundable but transferable to the next breeding. She offered the breeding of a different dog which my husband refused. That was not the agreement. Then she said wed have to wait for her to breed the original bitch again in 4 months but would not return the deposit. Please stay away from this shady breeder!
